Two separate but linked planning applications submitted by Lafarge Cement (UK) Ltd covering the proposed development of new rail sidings, and new buildings and structures to replace those removed to accommodate the proposed new rail sidings at Hope Cement Works were approved in June by the Peak District National Park. A third application covering access improvement works would be considered by officers as a delegated item. The current capacity of the works is about 1.45Mtpa (about 11 percent of the annual UK demand and almost a quarter of Lafarge's UK production).
