In September Highland Council approved the extension of the extraction area at Glensanda Quarry by 81 ha. This would release an additional "400Mt or so" of reserves. Although substantial reserves exist within the present consented site, Foster Yeoman sought permission to work into the application area in the shorter term while the glory hole and primary crusher were still at the higher level. The enlarged total area would result in the glory hole being more centrally positioned but there would be a switch in working procedure to the use of a mobile rather than a fixed primary crusher. The application was supported by an Environmental Statement. Since this planning application was submitted, Foster Yeoman Ltd had been acquired by Aggregate Industries Ltd, which had confirmed that the company was in full support of the planning application and the Community Fund agreement.
