Proposals by Tarmac Ltd for the continuation and extension of sand and gravel extraction at Cadeby Quarry were permitted in July by Leicestershire CC. The establishment of a Liaison Committee at the site was approved in August. The site would yield 0.945Mt of sand and gravel. Extraction has been carried out at the site since 1964 and restored progressively to agriculture by a combination of infilling with inert material and low level restoration. A concrete products factory west of the quarry processing plant was established in 1983 and subsequently extended under a number of planning permissions, some granted by Hinckley and Bosworth BC.
