An extension to Borras Quarry by Tarmac to work 11.8Mt of sand and gravel was permitted by Wrexham CBC in December. The overall application site area was 173ha. The application site comprised the Borras Airfield sand and gravel pit, which has been in operation since 1975, and extends to some 99ha; and the Holt Estate, agricultural land extending to some 74ha. The Airfield pit is part of the Borras Quarry complex made up of the Airfield itself and its satellite workings of Borras Farm (restored to agriculture); Borras Hall Farm (restored to agriculture); and Caia Farm (active and progressively being restored to agriculture).
