In January South Gloucestershire Council considered a scheme of operating and restoration conditions to be attached to an IDO permission at Tytherington Quarry submitted by Hanson Aggregates under the provisions of the Planning and Compensation Act 1991. This followed the registration of an Interim Development Order (IDO) mineral permission at Tytherington Quarry on 13 November 1992 (Ref No.NA/IDO/002). The original IDO consent for mineral extraction at Tytherington Quarry was granted in 1948. The application was first submitted by Hanson Aggregates on 4 February 1994. The permission at Tytherington Quarry was classified for the purposes of the 1991 Act as being "active", and a substantial part of the total IDO permission area remains unworked. Consideration of the conditions application had been deferred at the request of the quarry operators in order to take into account the then anticipated extension application at the quarry; this extension was approved by the Council on 16 December 2002. The physical development of part of the IDO area above Woodleaze Quarry was dependent upon the outcome of the extension application which envisaged the joining together of two areas separated by a public highway known as Itchington Road and the granting of planning consent for the removal of stone from beneath the affected section of road. The road closure order to give effect to this permission was received on 26 March 2004.
