The Vale of Glamorgan Council has refused,against officer recommendation, a proposal todrill and test for gas in the CarboniferousLower Limestone Shales and Upper Devonianmeasures.The company said in the application that it wished to drill a 160mm diameter borehole and to take core samples with a view to future capture and supply of shale gas and also to test for the presence of conventional gas in the Upper Devonian measures. Drilling would take place to a depth of approximately 650m and formed part of the company's continuing program of sampling across South Wales.The operation would take up to ten weeks.
