Progressive extraction of sand and gravel with restoration to agriculture including provision of an access and temporary diversion of a bridleway, east of Raghill Farm, Raghill, Aldermaston, by S Grundon (Ewelme) Ltd was approved by West Berkshire Council in FebruaryThe application site comprised 29ha in agricultural use on a high plateau east of Paghill and west of Padworth Common. It was proposed to extract 500,000t of plateau gravels over a period of 5-7 years at upto 100,000tpa with progressive restoration to agriculture at a lower level. No processing was proposed at the site. The application was accompanied by an Environmental Statement but this was not considered to be comprehensive and additional information was requested.
