A Local Government Ombudsman report on the Sands Copse-Babcombe Copse Mineral Site, near Kingsteignton, was noted by Devon CC in April. The report was in response to a complaint made to him by local residents in respect of the County Council's handling of mineral planning issues at the mineral. Working in Higher Sandygate. The complaint to the Ombudsman alleged that the County Council had: 1) failed to ensure compliance with conditions for the extraction of sand and gravel and restoration at Sands Copse; 2) made false assurances that renewed mineral extraction workings were permitted after they had previously ceased and the site had been partially restored; 3) misrepresented restoration conditions attached to planning consents and falsely declared that they were being complied with; 4) permitted mineral extraction under an old permission without a new planning application where there had been a later permission for tipping of inert waste.
