Variation of conditions to extend the period for completion of mineral extraction and completion of restoration at Broadoak Quarry, Ebchester, by Tarmac Ltd was approved by Northumberland CC in November. The proposed extension of the time limit and the resulting creation of new lagoons to serve Hollins Hill Quarry would not adversely affect the amenity of the adjoining land users, road users or the wildlife habitats. Broadoak and Hollins Hill quarries are two adjacent sand and gravel sites north of the village of Ebchester. The two sites are in different ownership and were originally separately operated. Both quarries are now operated by Tarmac Ltd. The two quarries share a lagoon area sited between the two quarries and a processing plant located within Hollins Hill Quarry.
