A planning application by Hanson Aggregates to vary a condition relating to the final restoration of Mere Farm Quarry, Nether Alderley, was approved by Cheshire County Council in April. The site covered 104ha and had planning permission for the extraction of construction sand; workings were to cease and be fully restored by 2014. The final restoration concept of the permission had restoration to three distinct water bodies, with the largest in the central area, and smaller areas of water to the east and west. This also provided for significant areas of agricultural restoration and woodland planting.
