Extension of operations at the Cleveland Potash Ltd (CPL) mine at Boulby, whose core business is extracting potash and rock salt used for gritting roads, should secure around 900 jobs at the site and support some 2,000 ancillary jobs in supply and service industries. Surveys have shown that more than a billion tonnes of raw polyhalite are accessible from this one source on the edge of the North York Moors national park.
