Staffordshire County Council has approved, subject to a legal agreement, an application seeking approval of a scheme of working aimed at minimising the impact of a limestone quarry on a site of ecological interest. The proposal related to the submission of details required by conditions attached to a consent for the winning and working of limestone supplied to the Cauldon Cement Works, operated by Lafarge Cement UK Ltd. The details related to the next two phases of extraction at the quarry, as well as mitigation measures to be agreed before extraction progressed onto calcareous grassland within the Cauldon Dales SSSI.
