Last summer the Mineral Products Association (MPA) embarked on the first phase of a biodiversity survey and fieldwork project. The information collected will support objectives in the MPA's biodiversity strategy by extending knowledge and understanding of members' contribution to the UK Biodiversity Action Plan and the Biodiversity 2020: A Strategy for England.It is widely acknowledged that the active engagement of our mineral companies is essential for effective biodiversity conservation, on a national and global as well as local scale.This was emphasised by all the key speakers at the MPA-Natural England Biodiversity Awards in October. Natural England's Dr Helen Phillips said the industry is "uniquely placed" to contribute to delivery of priority habitats and species and bring "corporate social responsibility to new heights".
