Hanson Cement's 13-megawatt solar installation at its Ketton works in Rutland in the east Midlands is the first of its kind in the UK cement industry. It is helping deliver CO2 savings while meeting the government's preference for brownfield solar development. Hanson set up a renewable-energy team in 2010 to identify projects to help reduce its carbon emissions. A number of different types of energy were investigated.
