York Potash is putting up about ?13m to help offset carbon emissions as part of a planning process for a mine near Whitby. The cash is part of a section 106 undertaking and is legally binding. "Final amounts will only be agreed if a positive decision is made on the project but includes a significant contribution of nearly ?9.4m for tree planting in the national park to offset potential carbon emissions," said a spokesman. It will be paid over 20 years.
