A proposal to extract limestone from a 25-metre by 400-metre site at Wickwar quarry has been recommended for approval by South Gloucestershire County Council planning officers. The proposal was expected to yield 1.9 million tonnes of mineral and to extend the site's life by up to three years, giving an overall timescale of 13 years, including restoration. The strip of land had been specifically excluded from an earlier consent to act as a buffer between the quarry and nearby housing, according to local residents who objected to the scheme.
