Extraction of sand restoration at Burleigh Farm, Charing Heath, Ashford, by Lafarge Aggregates was refused permission by Kent CC in September against the officer recommendation to permit subject to conditions and completion of a S106 legal agreement. Consideration of this application had been deferred in July so that Members could view the site prior to determination.Lafarge proposed to extract 1.85Mt of sand at 100,000tpa in two phases and the restoration of the 18.2ha site to predominantly agriculture, with shrub and woodland planting. The scheme included associated process facilities, advanced planting areas and access via a railway underbridge to a new road junction, with localised widening and 4 passing bays to Charing Health Road, and the creation of a new bridleway between the haul road and the A20 running parallel to Charing Health Road.
