A proposal to extend existing sand and gravel extraction with progressive restoration to agriculture and woodland by S Grundon (Ewelme) Ltd at Georges Farm, Crookham Common, was refused permission by West Berkshire Council in July. The application was accompanied by an Environmental Statement; the site was not a Preferred Area.13 letters of objection and two petitions were received objecting to the proposal on the grounds of noise and dust pollution; poor quality of restoration of land already extracted; affect on health and amenity; and irreversible damage to the landscape.
