Proposals by SSE Hornsea and Statoil UK to extend their underground gas storage facility at Aldbrough through the creation of nine additional caverns were approved subject to completion of a S106 Agreement by East Riding of Yorkshire Council in May. An environmental statement accompanied the application. SSE Hornsea (SSE) and Statoil UK (STUK) proposed to extend their underground gas storage facility on land adjacent and to the south of the Phase I facility, some 2km south east of the village of Aldbrough. It comprised nine underground gas storage caverns, with associated compression and drying facilities operated from a single 7.1ha central processing area (CPA).
