Lancashire County Council has approved new conditions for sand and gravel extraction followed by progressive restoration by importing non-hazardous waste materials after the application was deferred for consideration of tighter controls over phased restoration. The conditions were last reviewed in 1998 and provided for restoration by the importation of waste until April 2028.The operator estimated that 6,000 cubic metres of sand and gravel remained to be extracted over 12 hectares within the wider site and the remaining landfill capacity amounted to about 320,000 cubic metres, giving a life of four years.
