The Woman's Auxiliary to the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers, Inc., also known as WAAIME, has merged with SME. The organization's original purpose was to secure and maintain a fund to assist students in obtaining an education in mining, metallurgy and petroleum engineering or allied subjects. WAAIME membership consists of 579 women in 14 sections throughout the United States, plus a group of members-at-large and six sections in Mexico and South America. The 20 sections are very important to the success of WAAIME and its goals. They will continue to function as they always have - providing information, materials and local and national scholarships for the study of mining and its important role in modern society.
