To date five Local Development Plans (LDPs) have been adopted in Wales. All include a comprehensive range of mineral safeguarding areas to prevent the sterilisation of finite resources (including limestone, sandstone and sand and gravel) caused by development, even small permanent development in rural areas. Prospective developers may therefore need to demonstrate the quality and quantity of resources affected by their proposals, show whether or not extraction can take place prior to development and/or that no significant effect on resources will take place.
