Applications to extend a sandstone quarry in Durham, which produced fine-grained, creamy, buff stone for architectural use has been approved by Durham County Council. Dunhouse quarry was a long-established quarry, located six kilometres north-east of Barnard Castle. The high-quality stone produced at the site had been used in local buildings, including Durham Cathedral, Castle Howard and Edinburgh Castle. Waste stone was used as aggregate, walling stone and landscaping rubble.
