Proposals to construct a hydrocarbon drilling exploration and production site at the Somerby Exploration site, near Grove Farm, Gainsborough, were approved in September by Lincolnshire CC. The applicant wished to drill three wells to test for any discovered hydrocarbon bearing horizons and following successful testing the installation of appropriate production facilities. The existing field access to the site would be improved as part of the proposal. The 0.8ha application site was in open countryside. The main issue was whether the use made of the site would have a negative impact on the character and appearance of the locality and on the residential amenities of the nearest occupiers in terms of noise, nuisance and disturbance. Production testing would initially be planned to last for approximately 3-9 months. In the event that the well is discovered to be commercially viable, permanent production operation and equipment would be installed. Once the well had been exhausted, the borehole would be plugged and the site restored to its original condition.
