The government has confirmed the need for a future mineral planning system to operate to ensure that sufficient aggregates are available to support economic growth and development. The Commons communities and local government committee report on the abolition of regional spatial strategies, published in February, supported the retention of certain key elements of the managed aggregate supply system (MASS). The government's response, published in June, supports the committee's recommendation.
