The controversial application for a two-field extension to New Pilhough Quarry was permitted for Blockstone Ltd by the Peak District National Park Authority in January at a special meeting. A similar application was refused in May 2001 against officer advice and was subject to appeal (see Mineral Planning 88 p.9). This application included a significant additional benefit in that the right to work an additional area of Stanton Moor Quarry was to be relinquished. The applicant also offered a unilateral undertaking agreeing to work no part of the second field until such time as an appropriate planning application had been submitted for the construction of a new dedicated haul road off the Moor. Such an application for a full haul road may be allied to an application for further extension of the mineral quarrying area.
