In February ODPM issued a consultation on a new Minerals Policy Statement for England on 'Controlling and mitigating the environmental effects of mineral working' (MPS2). Comment was due by 11 April 2003. Details are at www.planning.odpm.gov.uk This consultation was conducted over 6 weeks, rather than the standard 12 weeks, as a full initial round of consultation was conducted in May to July 2000 as an extended MPG 11. This revised consultation document has been drafted in the light of the Government's planning reform agenda, including changes to the approach of planning guidance, and of the responses to the previous consultation. The consultation document comprised: MPS2. This states the principles to be followed in consideration of the environmental effects of mineral working and expands in appendices on the need for community consultation and involvement and environmental management systems.
