In March Cambridgeshire CC considered the preparation of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Minerals Local Plan, with joint working with Peterborough City Council. At present Cambridgeshire does not have a minerals local plan. The Council did prepare the Cambridgeshire Aggregates (Minerals) Local Plan which was adopted in 1991 and only addressed aggregates. Whilst it remains fundamentally sound, the government guidance on which it was based has now been largely updated or revised. In preparing a minerals plan, key issues will include the following: the overall level of demand for minerals in Cambridgeshire, and the level of contribution towards meeting national and regional aggregate demand, whether new allocations are required and where mineral extraction should take place, what contribution secondary and recycled aggregates will make towards meeting demand for aggregates, whether the emphasis should be on agricultural, biodiversity, recreation or public access afteruse, policies for minerals not previously addressed eg chalk and clay, community, environment, and transport issues.
