A revised planning application submitted by Scottish Power UK plc for the drilling of boreholes, controlled solution mining of rocksalt and construction of associated infrastructure for the storage of gas on land at Holford Brinefield and the former Byley Airfield site sought to utilise electrical compressors at the gas processing plant in order to reduce the scale of the development while also reducing the development programme from 7 to 4 years. The amount of landscaping was also increased. This was considered by Cheshire CC in May and again refused, against officer recommendation. It is now subject to appeal, as is the previous refusal. An application to amend the Hazardous Substances Consent was also submitted by Scottish Power to be consistent with the revised proposals; this was approved.
