During the Cold War, uranium production and research in the Eastern Bloc was top secret. This fact made the transition to a modern privatised enterprise more difficult for MEGA a.s. once these economies began to open. Based in Straz pod Ralskem in the Czech Republic, MEGA has its roots as an independent testing and research laboratory working on behalf of the Czech Republic's uranium industry.
