摘要

As AATCC and ASTM committees worked to develop test methods for UV transmission and protection under wet and dry conditions, concerns arose that water type might influence UPF values. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine whether wetting fabrics in distilled water, sea water,or chlorinated pool water resulted in significantly different UPF values.Thirteen fabrics of five different fiber contents (rayon, nylon, cotton, silk, and polyester)were evaluated both dry and wet. Results showed that water type did not significantly affect the UPF value of a given fabric, therefore, the use of distilled water for wet UPF tests is sufficient. Some fabrics exhibited considerably higher UPF values when wet than dry,a factor that might be exploited by swimwear manufacturers.
