The world of aviation was forever changed on November 19 of last year at the General Electric Aircraft Engines' outdoor test complex in Peebles, Ohio. During testing, the Ge90115 commercial jet engine reached an unprecedented 120,316 lb of transient thrust, establishing a new world thrust record. All records are made to be broken, and this one, in fact, was shattered the next day... the same engine achieved a steady state thrust level of 122,965 lb at standard day conditions. Thrust is the force that is induced by the engine to make the jet fly at a steady speed. The engine was designed to deliver 115,000 lb of takeoff thrust to power Boeing's longer-range 777-330ER and-200LR aircraft.
