What does a career in manufacturing engineering look like? What does the work entail? Who should consider this field? These questions might seem basic, but they are very important to young people who might have the aptitude for manufacturing engineering, but are unaware that such a profession exists. The SME Education Foundation, along with AMT - the Association for Manufacturing Technology and Modern Machine Shop, recently produced a video that educators and guidance counselors can use to offer an authentic picture of manufacturing engineering. In the video, Rebecca Miller, a 27-year-old quality control engineer with GE Aviation, describes her work and why she finds her field rewarding. GE Aviation provided MMS with access to its production floor to create this short film, which the SME Education Foundation will distribute to middle schools and high schools throughout the country.
