Quantitative estimation of the components of a soil gas phase is becoming an ever more vital problem due to global ecological problems of today--pollution of the environment and the greenhouse effect The soil cover of our planet, which is at the sametime an organic carbon reservoir, source and receptacle of greenhouse gases, performs an extremely important regulating function with respect to the atmosphere, Generalization of available information in this area shows that soil organic matter stores 1480±720 bill, ton of carbon (ranking third after the lithosphere and the world ocean), the emission of carbon dioxide and methane being 55 ± 14 bill, ton and 175 ± 60 mill. ton, respectively (30% of the total capacity of the CO_2 and CH_4 global sources).
