摘要

The Negev Desert is located in southern Israel. It consists of alternating plateaus, small uplands, and flat plains. Plain areas are covered by a loess deposit with sparse ephemeral vegetation. The average annual precipitation varies from 220 mm in the north to 50 mm in the south; downpours are most common. This results in the development of water erosion and colluvial wash, which frequently develop a complex, layered loess-gravel stratum [1], The nonuniform and intense precipitation and the complexsoil structure cause difficulties in studying the redistribution of surface water in the loess layer, its infiltration, and deep percolation into the soil,. With account for the nonuniform structure of the loess layer and biological soil processes related to the activity of desert soil fauna and plant root residues, the preferential infiltration pathways can be significant for the redistribution of surface water.
