The manifestations of hydromorphic processes and an increase in moisture in chernozems and other steppe soils are related to numerous reasons, both natural and anthropogenic; the following ones should be mentioned: (a) regulation of the hydrological regime of most steppe rivers and streams; hence, they cannot anymore perform their functions of natural drains; (b) disturbance of the land surface and soil runoff by field routes and forest shelter belts; (c) soil compaction by heavy vehicles; (d) recentincrease in atmospheric precipitation in the steppe zone; (e) irrigation without due water control, so that the practically nonpercolative water regime of chernozems shifted to periodically percolative [1]. All this induces the degradation of agroecosystems on chernozems and appearance of hydromorphic plots among the automorphic soils. Consequently, the ground water level went up almost everywhere in the steppe zone, and this rise was the most pronounced in the regions with flat topography, where saucer-like depressions differing in shape and size appeared.
