摘要

The purpose of this study is to investigate the turbulent flow structure behind a tree as basicresearch of windbreak forests. An actual living tree was used as the test specimen in a windtunnel experiment. The turbulent wake structure behind the tree was experimentally measuredby an X-type hot wire probe that allows the meaurement of two velocity components. We used ayoung "Cupressus Macrocarpa" tree which is an evergreen with needle-shaped leaves. Themain flow velocity U was 10 m/s, which is approximately the velocity of a natural calm wind.The Reynolds number, based on U and the maximum crown width d of the living tree, was5.6x 10~4.It was found that the flow structure in wakeof tree has strong downwash flowfrom the crown part of the tree. In the downstream region, the flow moves toward the center ofthe wake.
