摘要

Genotoxic evaluation of estradiol, a commonly used estrogen, was undertaken using various short-term in vitro and in vivo assays. The clastogenic potential of estradiol was evident from the chromosome aberrations and sister chromatid exchanges induced by it both without and with metabolic activation in cultured human lymphocytes and also from the increased frequencies of micronuclei formation and sister chromatid exchanges in mice. However in the Ames Salmonella assay, both without and with S9 mix, and also in the host-mediated assay, estradiol was unable to cause a significant increase/decrease in the His(+) revertants/plate.
