European and national legislation requires that all Products of Animal Origin (POAO) and live animals from countries outside the EU are imported through a Border Inspection Post (BIP), under the control of an Official Veterinary Surgeon (OVS). The legislation determines what are POAO, including frozen meat, poultry meat, fish, dairy products and products containing dairy and animal by-products. Different products pass through our BIPs. These range from frozen pork livers for pet food production, horn products for making buttons, bones for the production of bone china to blood serum for diagnostic use in labs.
