Water is important throughout the cropping cycle. Is it the most important ingredient a grower needs to manage for high yielding crops with high quality mushrooms? Is the water holding capacity sufficient? Is the water available? How much moisture islost from the compost during Phase II and the spawn growing stage? How much water is available to the mushroom mycelium? How much water is lost by evaporation after casing and before the mushrooms start to grow? Understanding water retention and movementin the compost and casing may help growers answer these questions.
