Over the past four years Syzygites megalocarpus has established itself as another prevalent disease on commercial mushroom farms. No longer is it isolated to a particular brown strain but readily colonizes white mushrooms and has been found on Pleurotus ostreatus outside of Pennsylvania (private communication). Limiting potential infection sites on your farm and prompt and proper treatment of infections arguably are the best defenses against the start of the disease and, if your farm has infections,the best methods of controlling it.
