YEARS AGO, two Saab engineers were sent Down Under for outback testing on a prototype. They were exclaiming about the dust in Queensland when locals told them to go further out, to the "real bulldust" So they did. At the airport in Sweden they produced two big jars of suspicious powder "And just what is this?" asked customs, "Yotta-yotta-yotta" quoth one. "This is "real bool dust". I don't know how many years they got I was reminded of that story after four-wheel-drive sales increased by 161 percent to a record high in April. I dug around a little and found that Land Rovers started being assembled in Sydney in 1949 -just a year after the Wilks brothers had unveiled their astonishing vehicle in the UK And in 1958, Leslie Thiess imported the first FJ25 LandCruisers to work on his 14km Snowy Mountains tunnels.
