This great road's name says it all. The Alpine Way cuts through the Kosciuszko National Park, between the lakeside tourist town of Jindabyne, and Khancoban on the south-western edge of the Snowy Mountains. Over 100-plus kays it winds through massive stands of high-country ghost gums, tip-toes along the edge of sheer rock faces, and blasts through stretches of green pastures, with the peaks of the Great Dividing Range providing a stunning backdrop.
