Schoenoplectus heptangularis Cabezas & Jimenez Mejias(Cyperaceae), a new species from Bioko Island (EquatorialGuinea), is described and illustrated. It is included in the groupof Schoenoplectus corymbosus (Roem. & Schult.) J. Raynalwhich is widely distributed in tropical and subtropicalareas ofthe Old World. Multivariate analyses performed on morpho-logical characters data to support the distinction of this newspecies with other closed taxon are presented as well as thedetermination key for the species of the Schoenoplectus corym-bosus group.
