摘要

Praseodymium hexaboride (PrB6) nanowires have been successfully fabricated for the first time with the self-catalyst method using praseodymium (Pr)powders and boron trichloride (BCl3) gas mixed with hydrogen and argon. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the compositions, morphologies and structures of the samples. Field-emission measurements on the PrB6 nanowires showed that a current emission density of 3.3 x 10(4) A cm(-2) was achieved at a voltage of 1457 V with an effective emission area as small as 1.2 mu m(2). A growth mechanism on the self-catalyst process is proposed for the formation of the PrB6 nanostructures.
