The last General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) in 2003 recognised the need to respond to a number of metrological needs in new areas. In order to address them, the CGPM encouraged the BIPM to collaborated with user bodies in these areas, to establish joint Committees, or to word through existing Consultative Committees, Since then we have made a number of significant advances, especially in chemical metrology.
