Effective May 23, 2000, IEST has been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an accredited standards writing organization using the canvass method. IEST's national standards-writing accreditation from ANSI, along with the Secretariat role for ISO/TC 209, attests to its total standards writing capabilities. In order to become an accredited American National Standards Developer, IEST is required to meet certain criteria. These criteria are designed to assure that any documents IEST submits are of the utmost quality and contain the most updated information. IEST has been preparing for American National Standards accreditation for some time by setting up their standards and practices program to meet ANSI rigor.
