A large posterior frontal solid cystic mass in a 1-year-old female.

摘要

A 1-year-old female child presented with left-sided weakness, drowsiness and reduced appetite over the previous 3 months. On examination, there was reduced power on the left side, with brisk deep tendon reflexes. The rest of the examination was within normal limits. On MRI (Fig. 1), a large posterior frontal solid cystic lesion was identified with enhancing solid component displacing the motor cortex, with surrounding edema. A quadrangular flap craniotomy and tumor decompression was performed. Intra-operatively, a tumor with solid cystic component was identified in the left parieto-occipital region. It was moderately vascular, adherent to the dura, with a predominantly firm to gritty consistency. At places the tumor was soft in consistency. The tumor was completely removed. Post-operativly, the child demostrated improvement in power on the left side. On post-surgery imaging, no residual tumor was identified. Six months post-surgery, the patient has shown marked symptomatic improvement and normal developmental milestones.
