A new report sponsored by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) targets gaps in technical guidance for using the FHWA traffic noise model (TNM) by detailing ways to model traffic-generated noise in a variety of settings that have not previously been addressed. Prepared by a team led by Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc., (HMMH) the report identifies best practices on applying TNM to accurately, consistently, and efficiently model these scenarios: 1. structure-reflected noise; 2. bridge expansion joints; 3. signalized interchanges; 4. intersections; 5. area sources, such as weigh stations, park-and-ride lots, toll facilities, and service plazas; 1. median barriers; 2. roundabouts; 3. parallel barriers; 4. tunnel openings.
