Hawke's Bay has the wood over many others in the New Zealand forestry industry as it strives to master the art of "cooperating to compete" in a global marketplace. Rather than lock horns with similar businesses down the road, industry players are combining resources and ideas to form a strong regional industry through the innovative cluster group Wood Hawke's Bay. The group was formed in August 2000 to help members combine their efforts in developing new markets, new products, technology and staffing. The group aims to increase the exports of value-added products by helping each other. Funded largely by the Port of Napier to the tune of 100,000 dollar a year, Wood Hawke's Bay has 42 members with Bruce Robertson employed full-time to run the group and work with industry players.
